UK's prime minister David Cameron will have a phone conversation with President Obama on Saturday over the oil spill matter by BP plc (former British Petroleum).
The deputy prime minister Nick Clegg reportedly answered to a question on this matter "I don't frankly think we are going to reach a solution to stop the release of oil into the ocean any quicker by allowing this to spiral into a tit-for-tat political and diplomatic spat," then "I am not going to start intervening in a debate which clearly risks descending into megaphone diplomacy." The Guardian paper picked it up in the article -- BP oil spill: Nick Clegg pledges to avoid 'megaphone diplomacy' with US.
That reminded me of North Korea. For those you do not know about North Korea: the country is under communist regime which detains 200000 people in the gulags, forced labor, prisons you won't get out in your lifetime, open execution with stones in the mouths etc. Do you have any idea what South Koreans are doing? Exactly. Megaphone diplomacy. They set up tens of megaphones along the border, and are ready to broadcast their voices. But they are taking time just to do it because North Korean government says it will retaliate if they do. So they are going to start out with some music. After the Security Council talks. Music coming from the megaphone. The megaphone diplomacy.
The unofficial talk at the Security Council will start on Monday over the North Korean torpedo attack on South Korean corvette.
(I should add at this point that North Korea is threatening to blast the installed megaphones.)
