President Obama's Meeting with King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia

President Obama and Saudi Arabian King Abdullah had a meeting at White House on Tuesday.

The king reportedly prayed to be spared from "all of the bad things they can do to us (and all the positive things they can do for us and for humanity)".  Accusing the media, or just the gesture of taking it lightly, is not funny especially when that joke is being published through the media.

It certainly has been the media that depicted it as "bowing" when it came to the matter of the President talks about human rights issue. It disturbs me when they talk of that style of greeting as such an unusual way of showing humbleness.  But the real deal making process is far more disturbing.

Saudi Arabia needs the United States to counter terrorism, Israel and Iran.  For many who wonder why the US started the wars in the region, some refer to the influences of the oil companies and oil rich nations such as Saudi Arabia.

The United States in turn, asks for its cooperation in countering terrorism around the globe, and opening its market.

There was a report of Saudi Arabia by BBC, where the prince, the local leader, himself goes out listening to people's demands, from the village, complaining to solve issues of disputes, granting permissions etc. Some 80% of Saudi Arabian people employed are by the government. The princes hold talks among themselves at times, it has been reported, trying to find mutual grounds to tackle the problems at hand.

While the royal families have the authorities, there hardly any incentive for them nor their governments to implement any changes necessary to cope with the problems coming up in this fast pace modern world.  The laws that they provide, must guarantee fairness.  The incentives -- the election does just that, giving incentives to lawmakers and officials to solve the problems for the people.

There has been local elections held in Saudi Arabia.  The United States complains of its slowness in its pace in implementing the changes.
