One of the founders of Jemiah Islamiya, a radical muslim group of Indonesia, Abu Bakar Bashir was arrested. The police believe they have the evidence to prove he is actively involved in the creation of a militant group Jemaah Ansharut Tauhid (JAT). They believe he appointed the key members and funded the organization. The Indonesian law says the police can detain the suspect for seven days for questioning.
He has been arrested before and was suspected to have involved in the terrorist attacks in the country such as 2002 Bali bombing that killed more than 200 people, mostly tourists in the discotheque. He was not found guilty for the charge and got 26 months in prison for conspiracy. He later was released in 2006.
The government says he could face the death penalty. The arrest, however, could incite anger among the sympathizers in the country. During his arrest, the supporters of the cleric chanted slogans at a protest.
