The courage and human wills of British Physicist Stephan Hawking are remarkable. He openly declared that God is not the factor of the design of this universe (Why God Did Not Create the Universe). He expressed his faiths in the laws of science that every matter must follow without exceptional God's wills. Now we can trust his theories, since he will be true to the laws of science. No matter how hard the theories could be, he will not give us the excuses that it is perhaps the God made it that way like so many of us do.
It is human to look for excuses from the burdens of making decisions. It is known that many in history relied upon oracles. When so many lives are at stake, bearing the burden of going into a war is not easy. If a war starts, millions of people would be killed including his or her own. By the mental pressure, human reasons often give way to simple gift from the God -- faiths and all that comes along with them. If it is for the God, the existence far above us, our trivial concerns would look so small. No matter what any other trivial creatures oppose the decision, you can be firm on it since there is the God above all of us. Do we then need God to be firm on our designs?
Many people would like us to use these coincidences as evidence of the work of God. ... That is not the answer of modern science. As recent advances in cosmology suggest, the laws of gravity and quantum theory allow universes to appear spontaneously from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist. It is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the universe going.

Each universe has many possible histories and many possible states. Only a very few would allow creatures like us to exist. Although we are puny and insignificant on the scale of the cosmos, this makes us in a sense the lords of creation.
