President Obama at APEC

The Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan had a meeting with Hu Jintao. This is the first meeting between the Japanese and Chinese leaders after the Senkaku Islands incident when the Chinese fishing boat collided with the Japanese coast guard ships. In the 22 minute talk, the leaders agreed with economic cooperation and on the importance of the strategic partnership.

In the APEC summit, the Chinese President Hu Jintao while emphasizing the economic importance of China in the world economy, referred to the income gaps where the wealthy top few percent owns much of its own economy. He talked of peaceful development of the region and insisted that China need to improve the qualities of the Chinese products.

In the talk between President Obama and the Prime Minister Kan, the President referred to the Japan's participation in the UN Security Council and the PM thanked the US for its endorsement of the Japan's stance over the Senkaku Islands and Northern Islands. The visit of the Russian President of the Northern Island right after the US midterm election stirred concerns in Japan.

The Prime Minister Kan talked with the Russian President Medvedev regarding the Northern Islands. They agreed with the importance of the economic cooperation between Japan and Russia.

President Obama spoke at the APEC summit and referred to the economic importance of Asia-Pacific region. He warned the nations not to rely solely on exports to the US. He emphasized that the US needs to export more and that will create jobs at home. He said, "with every one billion dollars we sell in exports, 5,000 jobs are supported at home".

President Obama in his weekly address talked about earmarks and how to cut wasteful spending on those projects. In earmark.gov site, there are numbers of projects, sponsors, and the amount of money allocated. He referred to the the cost cutting measures taken by the administration by over $3 billion.
