The emperor was the hero at the time of war. His speech to announce the end of war moving. He said, "You have endured the unendurable. You have tolerated the intolerable."
Having a wrong leader is simply a tragedy. The emperor I just mentioned above, did not even take the responsibility of the human damages caused by the war.
There are those leaders in the Middle East that set people to commit suicides. Telling people to sacrifice the lives to achieve the objectives, there is no more tragedy than that. People trust the leaders and lead to sacrifice their lives. And violence has its consequences.
The leaders need not be heroes/heroines nor the constituents. They are there to strike deals in the most beneficial ways for all concerned. Being corrupt with Chinese or Belorussian dictators, however, only damages the trust of people before being associated with heinous acts of treachery to the principles and to the people. That should never be the symbols of any nations or groups to be a trusted partner.
