US hypocrisy or for stable Middle East

It was in the cold war era when the United States started to give its resources to now Yemen's President Saleh. The nation was in a civil war between the North which is headed by Saleh and the communist South. Saleh took office in 1978 and since then has ruled the nation for more than 30 years.

The protests to demand Saleh to step down is continuing and killed two on Wednesday in Yemen's capital San'a. Now the United States is to spend $75 million to Yemen and for 'counter-terrorism'. This is in addition to $120 million earmarked in the 2012 budget request.

Is this money for the US hypocrisy or for the stable Middle East? In the case of the former, where is the voices for democracy in the Middle East? Why there is no voice in the media for the supports? Is it a barter with the revolts in any other not so pro-US nations? In the case of the latter, how are they hold down the protests who have not convinced with the concessions of Saleh not to run for the next election? When there are 46% Shia population in the South where separatist movements have been getting the momentum in the recent months, could the rules by the dictator of more than 30 years suppress the voices of people in Yemen?

The answer may be in the Saleh's cancellation of his trip to Washington and the talks with the oppositions parties.
