DPJ, the Democratic Party of Japan, elected the former Finance Minister Katsuhiko Yoshihiko Noda for its leader. He will be the next Prime Minister of Japan.
The party's former leader Ichiro Ozawa, the so-called 'shadow kingmaker' endorsed Kaieda and Noda did not win outright. Ozawa, however, facing mandatory indictment seems not to be able to get the votes needed to get his candidate win the party's election.
Noda was a graduate of Matsushita Institute and Government and Management and so as Maehara, the opposition that ran for the post. This is going to be the first Prime Minister from the school.
Both carry some traces of the school's 'nationalistic' 'free-market' policies. Noda as a prime minister could mean a win for the western allies. The school is founded by the founder of Panasonic, a major electronics company.
Noda is seen as a moderate which is a plus in the Japanese politics, contrasting well against Maehara who had been known for his 'performance' which itself means nuisance.
Noda is from Funabashi, Chiba prefecture, a suburb of Tokyo.
