Hundreds gathered and took to the street in Chicago as a part of Occupy Chicago movement.
The drummers and the protesters chanted "We are the 99%", holding slogans up high for the world to see. Cars passed by the area and responded with beeps. People cheered and clapped for their support.
The Occupy movement started out in Wall Street claims the rights of "the rest of us" or the 99% of the people who are neglected by those who are supposed to represent us. How is it that the riches are taxed less? How is it that we can not stop giving off subsidies to oil companies? The senators and representatives should hear the 99% of us.
"I agree with their agenda of 99%", a participant said. "The bailout money all goes to a handful few companies", said another. "It is not fair" they all chanted.
While the protesters of the movements are holding out signs and trying to get attentions of the passer-by and the media, others watched it from distance. "I am aware of the movement, it is happening all over the country. It is a good thing" Cyndie said. She believes the government should do more to help people in need. "My patients are desolate. They need help" she said. She did not recognize the name "American Jobs Act" but knew about the jobs bill and said she would agree with the provisions of the jobs bill.
"I know there are protests", said Patricia from Barrington, IL. She did not react to the name "American Jobs Act" either but knew about the jobs bill. I told her it contains the money to rehire teachers and firefighters, and the infrastructure spending for the states. "The Republicans oppose everything President Obama says", she said.
Three out of around five people I asked about where the protests are answered they knew about the protest and would like to join later on.
If the government oppresses us, we must stand up and fight against the corrupt. At the Occupy Chicago rally, people stood up and try to cry out to the world what is right or wrong. The government should take responsibilities of its deeds or words.
