The US Chopper crossed the border and killed more than 24 Pakistani soldiers. Both sides claim responsibilities on others that they have been 'preemptively' attacked. The NATO's secretary general Anders Fogh Rasmussen and US's Secretary of Defense Leon Pannetta and the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has expressed condolences to the victims. The solders had died in their homeland, protecting their nation by the hands of the supposed allies. The Pakistani government has expressed the rage over the disregard of sovereignty of the nation.
One could argue if the rockets have been fired across the border then Pakistani could be attacked as well. The type of attacks increased after the US forces killed Osama bin Ladin. Which, the government may not take the responsibility of, of course. The other arguments may be that if the Pakistani government cannot, how should they demand the NATO to prevent the tragic accident which may be beyond the capacity to deal with.
The attacks may look like and indeed could be taken as the deadly threats from the ever increasingly suspicious allies doubting the intention of the government whether they are willing to cooperate with the West. The lawmakers on both sides of the aisles demand results out of the billions of dollars that have been passed to the respective Pakistani officials.
The funerals were held for the fallen soldiers and thousands demanded justice for them. The Pakistani government closed the supply routes and demanded the US to move out of Shamsi airbase within 15 days. The government is not trusted that represent the people in Pakistan; the apathy toward democratically elected government is apparent; where should they direct their anger to? While suicide bombings give the ground to extremists because of the lawlessness to people who seek justice, more and more Pakistani people become against the West and the United States. In the midst of the diplomatic games, the security and prosperity of the 160 million people in Pakistan deteriorate.
Let us hope the Western nations recognize the anger of the people in Pakistan infuriated by the attacks which kills civilians and militants alike. Let us hope the Pakistani people find the way to deal with the West not through confrontation but in unity and cooperation. Let us hope this incident would not give reasons for the extremists for even more tragedies. The election in Egypt is scheduled on Monday. Let us hope the parties involved will take responsible pathways for peace and prosperity.
