The legislature is to vote on the Payroll Tax Cut next week.
There was a GOP debate on TV last night. Mitt Romney, Rick Perry, Newt Gingrich, Hermann Cain, Michele Bachmann, Jon Huntsman, Rand Paul, and Rick Sanctorum were there talking about national security issues including Patriot act, immigration policies, border security, setting no-fly zone Syria, Iran, and China.
The debate was not truly a discussion. The real strength of the Republican party is in the team work. For each agenda, there are sets of answers that is coherent to the overall strategies and policies. Each candidate presented his or her stance over the issues being discussed.
Their talks reminded me of what President Obama said before. "Yes tough," he said. "But we are tougher".
The main topic was the national security. The US centralized foreign policies are another of their characteristics. America is an exceptional nation, Romney said. On setting no-fly zone, Romney said it is about setting no-drive zone since there are 5000 tanks there. It is about Iran, Perry said. Some said they would go along with Israel if it stages a war against Iran. They pledged to make the States a military superpower.
At this point, the image of President Obama announcing the death of Osama bin Ladin flashed my mind.
The debate went on to immigration issues. We do not separate families, when they go to churches, Gingrich said. Perry swore that he would strengthen the border securities. As many people died in Mexico as in Afghanistan in the war of drugs. Freeing drugs would solve the problem, Paul said.
The race is about to begin, with the election a year away. They talk of the corporate money. Let us hope the debate will get us to the higher level and solve the problem.
