Secretary Carney referred to the President's State of the Union speech on 90 day up-or-down rule on the confirmation process of appointees in the Senate. Currently, a single senator can stop the process of confirmation, which is a wrong approach to exercise our democracy. The system is broken and is not good for the American public.

Answering questions on the Buffet rules and corporate tax reforms, Secretary Carney said that we will hear more on those issues. He referred to the Obama Administration's decision on the Keystone Pipeline and said the Republicans mixing the issue with the Payroll Tax Cut bill is unfair to the middle class Americans, who would be affected by the tax cuts by $1500 in average.

On the issue of the Oakland Occupy arrests on Sunday, he stated that the Administration must balance the First Amendment rights with the public security and safety. Over 400 people were arrested by the Oakland police which fired tear gas at the protesters.
