"The opposition will not back down", said G. from Syria. "Neither will the regime. This is going to be very bad," he said. It is painful to watch him talk. I asked him how he thinks of the Russian opposition against the UN resolution. I told him I somewhat know about the Russian army is using Syrian ports. "Russian does not agree because it is afraid of the democratic uprising in Syria that encourages the democratic aspiration of the Russian people," he said. "And, the uprising certainly will affect Iranian democratic oppositions," he pointed out. "That is what they are afraid of," he said plainly. "The Syrian people want the UN's help," he said.
How do we do to stop on-going massacre and the looming civil war? I consulted the matter to M. His answer was enigmatic but clear in some ways. He answered; "Iraq was in a civil war because of us. Syria is in a civil war because of our non-intervention policies".
Assuming he is right about "we can not do everything", so what is the supposed role of this nation? Are we still insisting upon being the responsible stake holder in the region?
