Payroll Tax Cut passed the legislature; Tibetan immolation; Latvia vetoed

The Congress pass the Payroll Tax Cut bill in bipartisan vote on Friday.  The social security tax cut will be extended until the end of the year as well as the unemployment benefits to fewer receipients.  Over $1 trillion budget shortfall of those measures will be paid for by the increase of the pension contribution of newly employed federal employees. 

Another Tibetan monk immolated on Friday, which the Chinese government calls "an act of terrorism".  The Tibetan people are asking for more autonomy in the region.  In what they call "cultural genocide", the Chinese officials prohibit the free exercises of their religion.  

Latvia vetoed in a referendum on a measure that would have made Russian its official language on Saturday.  Ethnic Russians consists of 27% of the people in Latvia, many of them came after in the Soviet era.
