The World Uygur Congress meeting opened on Monday.
Rebiya Kadeer, a Novel Peace Prize nominee and the head of the group, spoke in front of the audience in Tokyo along with 125 leaders of Uygur groups, said the human rights situation in China got worse, not better.
The Chinese opposition to the conference and the Uygur people, and to the Japanese government which issued visas for the attendees, should show just exactly how the situation got worse not better.
The media seems yet to take up the issue. Right before the world leaders are to meet in Camp David at the G8 meeting on Friday, are they to 'side' with Japan? Or are they to take advantage of the disarray between Japan and China for various other issues for the summit? Japan and the US just have agreed with relocating 9000 marines from Okinawa base.
In September 2009, more than 200 people have been killed in riots.
Let us hope the voices of Uygur people be heard and not muted by the Chinese oppression.
