Laws that could have saved lives: Assault Weapons Ban; High Capacity Magazine/Clips Ban

President Obama in his speech in Louisiana said assault weapons should belong to military, not to pleasure hunters.  The Aurora movie theater suspect employed such an weapon and resulted in a massacre.  There was such a law until 2004 that prohibit sales of such weapons.  The military grade weapons are designed to kill as many people as possible, and in the case with Aurora shooting, resulted in such a massacre by a graduate student.
There seems to be some confusion about the legality of how the graduate student obtained the weapon.  He got them online, from shops, legally simply because there is no law that prohibit transaction of such weapons.  The law expired in 2004 could have saved lives, some argue.  If he had to reload, someone could have attacked him and that could have stopped him from shooting any more.

There is a move to prohibit sales of high capacity magazines and clips.  Rep. Carolyn McCarthy and Sen. Frank Lautenberg are the proponent of HR. 308 and S. 32 respectively that prohibit transfer of such weapons.  Sen. Dianne Feinstein, Sen. Barbara Boxer, Sen. Daniel Inouye, Sen. Chris Dodd, Sen. Robert Menendez and others voiced their concerns on lax gun laws that made it possible for the suspect to access to such weapons.

Let us hope the voices of sane arguments and clear heads will lead the nation for all the citizens that are facing risks of gun-related crimes and accidents.
