State sponsored protests in China

There has been protests on the streets in China over territorial dispute.  The purchase of the disputed Senkaku islands from a private owner by the Japanese government prompted massive protests in major cities in China.  The rioters destroyed stores, factories and restaurants and robbed items. There have been reports of the Japanese citizens injured by the mobs.  Many of the stores, factories, and schools are closed for the day. 

The whole incidents are largely regarded as demonstration of power before the anticipated regime change in China.  There have been cases of state supported protests in China over the years where the participants were supplied with money, foods, and transportation.  The participants of the protests before the embassy were reportedly comprised of batches of people coming and going. 

Prior to these violent protests on the street, some cases fatal, Xi Jinping who is regarded as the next President of China disappeared from public for weeks.  There have been reports of his back injuries, assassination attempts, cancer treatments, etc before the state media reported his greeting at a university. 

The Secretary of Defense Pannetta visited Japan during this time of turmoil and confirmed the ties with Japan.  He is to meet Xi Jinping in Beijing shortly.  



President Obama is to meet with Aung San Suu Kyi, a Nobel Laureate who fought for democracy in Burma then under military dictatorship.
