Total 138 nations voted for the resolution, including France, Spain, Italy and Japan. The 9 nations that voted against include the US and Israel, Canada, and Czech Republic. The nations abstained from voting include Germany and the UK which till the last minute pressured to set limitations on Palestine, trying to prohibit its participation in organizations such as ICC, International Criminal Court. The Israeli Prime Minister is set to visit Germany in coming days.
This historic leap for the statehood for Palestine, should 'pressure' Israel from air-bombing Palestine and targetting indiscriminately the Palestinian people. The eight day masscre resulted in deaths of more than 170 people mostly civilians. Even after the cease-fire agreement, there are reports of Palestinian farmers and citizens being shot to death by the Israeli soldiers.
Let us hope the voices from the international community will help bring peace in the region. The Arab Spring has brought democracy to states that have previously been under corrupt dictatorship. Let us hope the democratic process further bring the sense of responsibility for laws and orders in the region, by showing the fairness and justice by the international community. Let us hope no other nation will seek the isolation from the international community.
