We celebrated President Obama's landslide victory in the election on Sunday.
Many have pointed out the winning cause of the election being the 'ground force' and the meticulous vote counting. There we are working day in and day out for this day. We discussed many issues there. Among them the Citizens United case, which opened a way for large donations to political candidates and parties without specifying the donor's names.
How did this election end up with such a resounding victory -- 332 votes versus 206 votes -- for Obama? Where did all the money go? What of the 'October surprise' set up by the media? Did it change the voters' mind at all at the last minute?
The election results should tell us something on this sort of money. The election is over. What do we say about the election? The most popular opinion here simply is this: we do not have to listen to political ads anymore. "It's silly", I recall some saying before the election. "I do not know who to vote for. I do not know who is running from my district". Now we are all free from those ads.
Let us hope the waste of the money from the rich donors and corporations for this suppoosedly 'a close race' should give the incentive to place limits to this corrupt system of politics. Let us hope our freedom of expression should not be hindered by the large donation money from the vested interest groups. Let us hope we can move forward for our democracy.
