The new model of US-China relations

President Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a talk over the weekend.
Is China
 - getting better?
 - exactly the same?
 - worse than thought?
The US-China relations would shape the 21st century world.  And yet, what we hear is just from greedy private enterprises trying to and already are profiting from the largest market in the world.  The Chinese President Xi reportedly announced he would seek to build a new model of diplomatic relations across the Pacific Ocean.

The model, or the blueprint, however, is somewhat blurry in their pictures that they have depicted in announcements made after the summit that took place last week.  Will China be a responsible stakeholder?  Or will the US be an irresponsible actor in the region that give tacit approval to the now-name-only-communist dictatorship?

In case of territorial disputes, facing trade wars, race for resources, the US presence and the leadership is essential to maintain peace, stability and prosperity.  The trust that we are standing on the same ground, heading for somewhat similar objectives, and how we achieve the goals, should be based upon mutual understanding.  The cultural differences are in that -- no one can not get out of the social frameworks that they are in.

Let me say in a very simple term, that China is getting stronger over the years.  We hardly ever hear anything about Tibet anymore.  No one seems to have heard of their desperate self-immolation, which the Chinese government claims acts of terrorism.  The Chinese government openly blocks accesses to outside media.  Is the US media self-regulate and blocks access to articles that deal with Tibet?  In California where the US-China summit was held, Falun Gong protesters and Tibetans took to street and demanded Xi the human rights.

Let us hope, that along with the agreement on fluorocarbon regulation with the Chinese government, we could build frameworks for negotiations on issues that concern all of us.  Let us hope what China says "win-win" scenario is indeed a win for all citizens of the world, and not only limited to corporate CEO's who exploit Chinese workers and kill the US jobs.  Let us hope the US be a trusted partner of all the parties there in the region.
