What do you think of Obamacare? The answers have been invariably: no I do not like it. I did not ask whether they like Obama's language in the same context. Here is one from the White House Twitter account.
It's. The. Law.
Just yesterday, however, the Obama Administration announced that the implementation of some of the provisions of that law is going to be delayed. One of the major provisions of what the Obamacare, the mandate to provide health insurance to employees will not be implemented until 2015, a year later than set previously. The mandate is placed upon companies that employ over 50 employees, which has been under some criticisms especially by small business owners.
This is a major setback. What happens to those who are not covered? The business is for business for sure, but surely they must think of their employees, however small they are? How many of them will go bankrupt when they get sick? The healthcare costs account for whopping over 60% of the bankruptcies filed in this nation. Who needs such laws? Are they not the ones working at small companies?
This is such a disappointment. Sure there are people who says they do not like Obamacare. Now they lost this opportunity to get people covered. Does this please them? Some say it is for the election in 2014. Let's say the Administration is waiting for the people's verdict. Then, what about those healthcare insurance companies? The big donors of the campaign, which employ an army of lobbyists, which happen to have donated for the former Massachusetts governor? What about their expected revenue from the mandate?
I have always thought that the Administration somewhat is tactless. Maybe this time I should think it otherwise. Depending on, of course, how things turn out. What would the people say this time? Would the people say, with the helps from the well funded media, of course, maybe just maybe they sort of need healthcare mandated? What about the reaction from the other side of the aisle? What is this bewilderment among GOP members? The media?
Fortunately, I work at a large corporation which provides some limited coverage. I thought of my friend who won't be covered anyways since the organization that she works for is small. "No, I am not covered," she said to me. She declared to me she does not like Obamacare, either. Why do they like to talk like the insurance companies having the right to drop people for their benefit? Why do they not demand their rights to get covered? Social and political issues, and the money which talks here this highly capitalized society.
