President Obama spoke on Korean war. The President praised the war efforts and declared that the US be the strongest nation on earth. Perhaps he was talking of the military expenses that is indeed the highest among all nations on earth. Do we feel secure yet? Maybe not. Whether our tax money protect us is not totally depended on forces alone.
President Obama also stated in the speech that the US has won the Korean war. The war divided the nation in half back in time of the cold war. The President emphasized the war ended with a tie. Calling the deal that ended the war with the former Soviet Union a clear win, somewhat may sound odd. It was not the war that made the West the winner. The economy that is based upon free market made it possible for today's prosperity in South Korea.
Many lives have lost in the war. Why should Korea have fought for the ideologies of communism against capitalism? The nation is still divided. North Korea plays with brinksmanship still and still in poverty. South Koreans must still serve in the military at the height of their youth.
The US troops are still in Afghanistan fighting for 'freedom' and 'democracy'. Meanwhile, the nation's efforts discredited much by not protesting against the military coup in Egypt whose democratically elected government has overturned. The junta started out shooting the protesters and more than 80 people were killed.
While those who stay at home would praise their bravery of the soldiers risking their lives, it is the poor that take the consequences of the wars. We need more talks and not wars. We are in an era that no one wins at wars. Exactly why did we go to Iraq? Did win the war? Whether we could have avoided the tragedy Algerian incident that is not in the number of F16's nor in F35's, or even F22's.
