@GunDeaths tweets whenever gun deaths are reported. |
The NRA meanwhile claims the opposite. Yes, the opposite. Again, with the distorted logic with massive amounts of money poured in. It claims, that in Virginia, more guns are sold and the number of criminal cases went down. The number they have shown is somewhere around over 50% increase in gun sales and 5% decrease in the number of crimes.
The reason for the sales increase is evidently because of the active talk on regulating guns especially after such gun shooting incident like Newtown, CT. The guns are not purchased for anything but to be 'prepared' for anticipated regulations on guns. Which, incidentally, have not happened so far in the Congress. There are reports on mixed messages from the Democratic party exactly when they are to take up the issues in the Congress. What has the Dems done? Medical marijuana is legalized and we still do not have gun laws.
The number of criminal activities are more related to the state of economy. The number of criminal activities go down as the economy recovers. The NRA's logic of presenting the figures up in a way that may look related, needs more explanations if to convince there would be any logic behind. That is, the NRA must show the logical links between the figures if it is to claim that the increase of sales is the cause and the results are the decrease of criminal activities. The key to the changes of the figures are so obviously the economy and nothing else.
We need sensible gun laws. More guns, more gun deaths. Let them talk about the costs and the costs of safety on the streets. The polls show overwhelming majority support closing gun-show loopholes and regulating online gun sales.
