Syria takes Russian offers

Call your Senators/Representatives
While the war talk escalates, even more Senators and House representatives expressed opposition to war.

Meanwhile, Russia put out a plan to place Syria's chemical weapons under 'international' controls.  The Syrian government said it would comply with the plan.  Franch is to bring a resolution to the UN Security Council with military options, which may or may not win the votes from Russia and China.

The US loses its credibility when it boast of its military power to force its way and its justice especially when no other nations agree with the military attacks.  Time limited "intense" and punitive massacre that would allow the US forces to kill Syrians indiscriminately will put other nations on guard, thus inviting more arms race in the region and elsewhere.  Reference to the capability of Syria to fight back, together with its allies, only reinforce the view that force must be countered with force.

The reality on the ground is the opposite.  Mighty US forces have never succeeded in winning the hearts and minds of people in Iraq.  Iraqi people are suffering from the civil war which the US has brought in when it toppled its regime.  It found the only tactics to counter the nation from colonized by the 'greatest' military superpower: a guerrilla war, and terror attacks.

The US has spent trillions of dollars in the prolonged wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, in vein.  How could we afford to start out yet another war in the Middle East?  The costs of war, financial, political, and in human lives are enormous.  The US credibility is all time low in the region; the rebels won't thank the US for killing Syrians, however they might be happy about the bloody ordeal.  No more wars, let's built here at home.  The US people has spoken and spoken rightly against the possible military attacks.  Let our Senators and House representatives speak our voices.

The changes, the ones most monumental in the history of mankind, do not come with glory.  The processes are messy, those involved are tattered to bits, and the audience is mostly absent or paying attention to something else.

Our Senators and House Representatives are mostly on our side, despite the huge money glowing from defense contractors.  The voices from ground, are not organized in the same way for the election.  The voices are stronger still; we do not want wars.  We do not want wars that are not winnable.  We do not want 'face-saving' wars. We are tired of tyrannical big government spending massive amount of tax money and sending troops for no good reasons other than geopolitical hegemony.

The AIPAC money and the Sunday campaign with photos of the victims did not work to set up the ground for support of military actions. The call from Pope Francis hit us harder: war is not the way out.  Taking side in a civil war, without the prospect of isolating the other side, will drag us into yet another military conflict in the region.

The lobbyists may be on the move, while it does seem to me that the way Washington works has changed.
