The national debt now stands at $17 trillion has many negative impact on our economy. If economy is not the issue, the impending tax hikes will be detrimental in elections. The high borrowing costs the taxpayers. The debt weakens the US influences around the globe.
The US borrows some $1.3 trillion from China, and more than a trillion from Japan. When you are asking for more money, how could you demand anything from them to do what you want? Can you talk about Tibet when you are asking to buy the US bonds from the Chinese government? What if the Chinese leader say not to meet with the Dalai Lama? It is not just about the chance to show off mental support to that impoverished and oppressed Tibetan people. It means lives of the Tibetan political prisoners in China who face death penalties just by protesting against policies of the Chinese communist government such as the possession of the photos of the Dalai Lama or speaking in front of public about Tibetan autonomy.
Some deaths are human made and preventable, such as gun deaths in the States. Tibetan people get arrested, tortured, and killed all by the political consequences of the lack of leadership. Neither of the parties have not spoken up on this issue; the EU is still silent; Japan has never said a word to the Chinese leader.

The EU decided to reinforce or nullify some of the provisions of Schengen treaty that guarants the freedom of move of EU citizens. The French interior minister claimed the nation should have the right to limit people mainly from Romania and Bulgaria.
