President Obama spoke on the immigration issue in San Francisco. The President briefly mentioned that the nuclear deal with Iran is the major achievement toward the right direction for the peace and security of the region, and of the world. In the speech, he said the United States should lead, and be the beacon of the free world, not by forces alone but with diplomacy as well.
It would be great indeed if the United States ceased to be the greatest threats to world peace. This nation is still at war, sending drones and creating enemies. The costly wars have bankrupt the nation.
President Obama continued on with his talk on immigration issues. This issue has been there for a while, even during his predecessors' time. It just is not right to keep them in the shadow. Great many businesses are created by them. They will bring wealth and prosperity, he insisted.
While he went on with the talk how he cope with the Congress, a man shouted "use executive orders to stop deportation, you can do that". He disrupted the President's talk for some time, and the guards came and was getting him out. The President said, however, that he can stay. I know what you say, he said, but I can not do that. This nation has the laws, he said, that is why I am here. We are trying to change them.
Whatever the leadership he talked about, that incident certainly tells us something about what it is to listen to people and lead them to better solutions. Most notably that he did not expel that person, who probably is the first generation American. The President told him that he understands the problems and is there just because of it. While the person was brave enough in speaking up for something that might get him deported, the Presidents' answer was very promising.
Let us hope that we can move on to peaceful pathways. Let us hope that the functioning Congress will do something on immigration issues, if not for the humanity then for the election.
