Sen Obama 2005: "That is now prompting a change in the Senate rules that really I think would change the character of the Senate forever… "

The Senate changed the rule and now nomination require 51 votes instead of 60. The rule previously touted as what protect the minority was overruled by mostly Democrats' votes. This time, the Dems showed unity; we all want functioning Congress indeed.
McConnell: 'If you like the rules of the Senate you can keep them!' GOP staffers find it hilarious.

It does seem like the power and the title have corrupt the mind of the politicians into thinking any obstruction is bad for -- the nation.Titles change people; it is much like a professor telling you he is not writing a recommendation letter for you. I had one professor whose class I sort of took, not by departmental affiliation but by helping him creating websites. IT skills can be handy at times. I attended every lecture of his and created the web pages. It was an interesting course of neurophysiology. He offered time for my questions and was very nice. Years after, I came back to the University and asked for a recommendation letter. The professor, now the head of the department, did reply to my email saying; exactly what did you do for me?
Titles change people, and their characters. What seemed so democratic now is only a procedure hurdle that is in the way. The rule has changed.
Is this one of the desperate attempts of the Administration for power? In recent months, nominations are the only occasions ever where the President comes out in public. Now he can freely nominate judges and that is meaningful politically and not like celebrity fun time, even when the polls indicate people indeed are so fond of looking at him in public.
I mean, it has been very disappointing looking at what he has achieved. And now he's getting this like the major goal of the administration. Like hell we care about nominations. Will there be a hole lot of lawyers, his pals? It indeed is a huge problem if the nomination processes are the reason for the failed leadership and do-nothing Congress.
