Crimea's referendum

There was a report from the Republican side, indeed, from McCain that President Obama wrote an essay about international relations while he was in Columbia Univ.  In his essay, the President stated that the confrontation is not the way to bring this world -- nuclear free.  I believe McCain brought that up for accusing not taking hostile position against Russia.  That essay, however, only convinced me further that President Obama was elected in the election against McCain.

No war broke out despite the tension build up in Ukraine, and I am only grateful that he is in the office.  Looking at arrogant wording of the other members of the Congress and the media, together with the audience, I thought of the lives saved during this conflict.  This revolution is not bloodless.  Many died while fighting for freedom.  The oppositions which failed in 2004 Orange revolution are up again and showing poor management skills.  It is still yet to see how the oppositions can form a functional government.

Crimea is to vote for its independence on 16.  Russia might have lost Ukraine, while the new Crimea government is presumably pro-Russia.  Bloodless revolution, yet still its stability is not known.  The uproar from the Western nations and the blatant shameless hypocrisy of the International Law may sound heartening, while it could be hard just to prove that the referendum be nullified on what basis.

There could be deals with all parties concerned.  The aid money, the prices of gas, even military threat.  All of these, cost the tax payers' money, and the States is broke.  "If Obama is elected, Russia will invade" said Palin in 2008 election.  That, however, may not all mean that the world would be under the tyranny of super powers as in the cold war.  This incident prove responsible Russia and capable EU, could avert the US intervention.  Let us hope Russia goes further with the EU to be an stakeholder that can cooperate, for Ukraine, for the region and for the world.
