A referendum is a referendum, a peaceful means to proclaim the sovereignty of the region. There is cases like Kosovo; and then there are indeed choices in the degrees of independence. Rather, independence of local economy is more of a problem of Russia. Autonomy is a possibility.
If a peaceful solution is the objective then why the provocation indeed, that affect the market and possibly the oil prices? Could the Republican primaries affect their political stances, to show off hawkish conservativeness? At the cost of Ukrainian people's lives?
