The leaders met; the Russian President Putin and the newly elected Ukrainian President Poroshenko had a private conversation in France; they called out for peace.
Now that the Russian President had a conversation with the Kiev counterpart, the Western nations in particular the UK and perhaps France should heed to what the Ukrainians say. The legitimacy of overturned government by violence should have to be proved and that won't be assumed *.
The Western leaders do not seem to have asked Ukrainians how they want their country to run. Ukraine was a former CIS nation, under the heavy influence of Russia, or rather with closest ties with Russian economic, military, social, and cultural connections. Unless they recognize how they identify themselves not as a part of the decadent western world but of the Russian's, the Kiev government won't be able to function as a unifying force. The arrogance of the West has lead the nation to a civil war; the pro-Russian forces of the former CIS nation of Ukraine won't be able to be ousted by full force. And that would only be the expansionism of the EU that could motivate such a move.
The Moscow times "War and Poverty Threaten Ukraine's Future" rightfully raise the issue of the problems that the new Kiev government will face.
*) "A brief note from post-election Ukraine" Note there is no reference to the Eastern states that did not vote for the election.

Let us hope the Kiev government proves itself capable of running the nation. Let us hope Russia proves itself capable of dealing with one of the closest of the former allied nations. *) "A brief note from post-election Ukraine" Note there is no reference to the Eastern states that did not vote for the election.
