The author of Sherlock Homes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was an advocate of humanity. He wrote stories of people fighting against the social ills. His depiction of crimes and the victims of crimes tell us the values of the society; honor, civility, and compassion. He fought against the prejudice or rather systematic abuse of his society against Indians and Jewish people in his real life.
The process that how the famous author got his title of Sir, however, tells us how his society that awarded the prize or whole Europe went into the quagmire of wars that most fatally damaged the development of the region economically, military, or culturally. His wrote books honoring the history of England advocating nationalism. He even ran for the office advocating the war.
His efforts on clarifying the position of the UK on its brutality in the war was rewarded with the title. A familiar war time incident of the intellectuals under those circumstances.

Could it be the reason for some religious organizations banning the purely scientific theory of evolution? Evolution is science, and it is omnipotent, governing our biological world. The fossils tell us the process of which the present day animals have evolved in orderly manner.
The political use of the scientific discovery long plagued our society that hindered us from what could have been the major tools that can open our eyes and lead us more discoveries that can save lives of people. Let us hope the people's natural skepticism politicize the issue.
