Twitter and Journalism







Is Twitter about 'journalism'?   

Mere 140 letters may not be the same thing as proper news articles with proper verification methods.  It is only utterance of some individual with unknown motivation.  There are groups of people, paid, and tweet on partisan issues.  Soon after the Presidential candidates announced their run for the office, tweets on their qualifications appeared. 

The short tweets, however, certainly reflect the voices of the voters.  There are bogus positive and negative tweets.  You must use your own judgement deciding which ones you would like.  Then the retweets will tell you what is popular, and what is not.  

Those posts can spread words that the media filter has prevented from doing so.  There certainly are filters that prevent us from reading, but they are different ones from that is filtering news articles by the major news companies. 

The business side of journalism would be affected by this participatory journalism.  Their tweets in turn, however, tend to get retweeted more.  It is not limiting the news source.  Rather, it is expanding it. 

Let us not let the negativity ruin this outlet of people's outcries on matters concerning everything including politics, economy, social issues, disasters, crimes, ...
