The Democratic Party Presidential Debate was held today and ten candidates debated on issues mainly on:
On healthcare, some debates on providing the universal healthcare. The establishment in particular insisted on 'we only differ in how we achieve the goal' while others demand "healthcare as a right not privilege".
On gun issues, 'all of us are for banning semi-automatic'. Citing the victims comments, the theme 'taking the fight against the NRA' seemingly running throughout their talks.
On climate, their promises going beyond their possible term for the next election go pretty aggressive, lowering the fuel standards and even eliminating fossil fuel cars, carbon neutral and zero emission power plants, etc.
They are most sympathetic about immigration issues. Perhaps they are their strong base and the current Administration antagonized them fully.
On tariff issues, the protectionism dominated the arguments. We will export our goods not jobs, says. While scapegoating imports, however, there are voices that we should not antagonize our allies in fight against China as they accuse its human rights records. They mentioned Hong Kong. Some accused President Trump dealing with North Korea's Kim Jong-un (as if nuclear testing never stopped under his watch). On the troop withdrawal from Afghanistan, the claim goes: we are not helping them, nor us ourselves, nor making the world safer there; it is a thing that cannot be done by military forces.
The candidates esp. with lower poll numbers stated the party is divided and racism is a problem. We are having an existential crisis, one of them said in the debate. This is not a referendum on Trump. It is a referendum on us.
