A state of emergency has been issued in the Tokyo area. The number of cases has been up even before the game. Stores close early, drinking is strongly discouraged, and the people take the warning seriously stay-at-home-unless-strictly-necessary. The nation has dealt with the virus this way and thus far, it has been effective.
The people fear, however, that it may not be the case this time.
The athletes and reporters, sponsors of the Olympic games will bring the virus and the variants.
What will happen if all the variants from all over the world get together in one place and mutate?
The competitions will not only be amongst the athletes. The virus will compete for survival. Which variants will win, and dominates? The winner variants should be vaccine tolerant.
The risks of stronger and more contagious variants get greater than ever. Thus the name Corolympic. The vast majority oppose the game. Will they be playing with the teams whose members had close contact with the athletes who tested positive? Would such games be fair?
Toyota announced today that the company will withdraw the Olympic CMs and the CEO will not attend the opening ceremony. So far, President Biden, Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau, Guterres of the UN have announced they will not attend the unpopular ceremony.
The government should weigh the risks and stop the super-spreader event.
