Altruism

Altruism is defined as "the belief in or practice of disinterested and selfless concern for the well-being of others."

Is the behavior of Hollywood actors/actresses based upon altruism?

In a sense, as they place their interests solely on being entertaining, their actions resemble altruism. Unless you interest the spectator, you won't be -- interesting. In that sense, 'they care about you' or 'they care about your interests. Much in the same way as democratic elections go, they work for you. Or your support. Or your interests. Or your votes.

Their eternal lust for fame, should that really be termed as altruism then?

Their passion is in attracting your attention, and in a way, they certainly work for you. Their outrageous and eye-catching outlook and deeds may annoy you, however. You may have different purposes in life and their drama may enrage you by their popular commonplace stereotypes.

While their genuine desire for being interesting may move you, as altruism is about the well-being of the person, it is not true altruism if their aim is about their feeling better by exercising their power on other people.

We say it is hypocritic if a politician says "it is for you". We should probably then say it is not for us if Hollywood says it is interesting for them. Why should leading a life like them be for you?
