COVID and Democracy

While more people will die by COVID, the nations esp. the European nations have not taken measures against the spread of the virus. Banning travelers from the UK only hardly prevent people from the virus, presumably.

In the US, the shortage of ICUs and the healthcare professionals in the northern states has driven the mortality rates up. In Wisconsin, the death tolls skyrocket as hardly any ICU is available. That is, the people die waiting for an empty ICU. The shortage of personnel -- the traveling nurses -- would worsen the situation, including the financial ones.

This is all predictable and should be avoided. Vaccines, masks, curfew, and lockdowns, as last year. Ban indoor dining and gatherings. Promote social distancing.

The 'freedom' (quoted, since it is not true freedom, the virus rules) is being challenged. The 'freer' nations suffer more from the virus. The lack of action taken because of the elections coming up should not be an indication that democracy does not work.

In the UK, the attacks on the PM and the ruling party having had hosted parties last year have driven the support rate lower and the party lost the local election by the Liberal Democrat Party candidate.

Wisconsin is particularly vulnerable. Down south of that state is Illinois, the home state of Obama, a blue state. The state has been -- had been -- a target by the Republicans. While more of the factor that matters be its geographical location, the nominal freedom principles could have driven up the infection rates.

Should the above statements be backed up by numbers for the sake of what? Their jobs? For the discussion that they do not take part? Any objections against this simplest statement? This is a crisis and more so IMHO than any other, as that involves all of us. All of us in the world. Damn the coming up elections.
