Fair Districts, Foul Play: Standing Up for the Florida Constitution

Florida is currently at the center of a high-stakes shell game, and the prize is your representation. Right now, the redistricting process has turned into a power grab that ignores the very rules we, the voters, put in place. By overriding the legislature and pushing a custom-made map, Governor DeSantis is treating the Florida Constitution like a list of suggestions rather than the law of the land. 

Specifically, this move is a direct hit on the Fair Districts amendments. Back in 2010, Floridians overwhelmingly voted to stop politicians from drawing lines that favor their own party or dilute the power of minority communities. Yet, here we are in 2026, watching those exact protections get sidelined.

This mirrors a frustrating trend we’re seeing nationwide. When leadership devalues facts and attacks the systems meant to educate us, it’s an attempt to keep the electorate confused. Voters are the ones who suffer when the deck is stacked before the first hand is even dealt. It creates a sense of hopelessness that makes people want to stay home on election day, which is exactly what these tactics are aiming for. Whether it is through confusing rhetoric or legal maneuvering, the goal is to make you feel like your participation doesn't matter.
