President Obama and Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki in a press conference announced the US troops' withdrawal from Iraq.
President Obama said that the US wishes to have a democratic and free Iraq and assured that the borders will be secured. He said, the entire troops will be back home this year, as promised in the 2008 campaign.
Prime Minster Maliki said, Iraq will continue ties with the US economically, politically, and militarily. He expressed confidence that the cultural exchange will bring the nation closer to the US. He demanded for military support and aids from the US including F16's.
The questions from the press includes whether the war in Iraq was a dumb war. President Obama took up the question and said it is the history that will decide. The President said the war killed more than 4500 US troops. In fact, the war has killed some estimated a million including civilians in total. In contrast with the case with Osama bin Ladin, the tactical difference will results in lives of people.
There is no good war, nor bad peace.
